At sometimes the pacing feels a little off and I also feel as if the author brushed over a few things that I would have liked to hear more on (what Milwaukee Police was going to do to further prevent any more terrible mistakes). Although Dahmer killed seventeen young men and boys, it was not so much the number of people he killed that makes him stand out among famous serial killers, but more so the acts of depravity that he committed on the corpses of his victims. I think Dahmer's psychological issues were mostly based on his feelings about his own homosexuality. To me, an outsider, the obvious answer to a question like Jeffrey Dahmer is that he is simply a sociopath. She was able to follow the story headline by headline as they proceeded through the firestorm surrounding the handling of Konarek Sinthasomphone's near-escape from Dahmer, all the way through the trial and victim's impact statements. Schwartz, who broke the story and had exclusive access to the principals involved, details the complete, inside story of Dahmer’s dark life, the case, and its aftermath: the horrific crime scene and the shocking story that unfolded; the forensics; the riveting trial; and Dahmer’s murder in prison.A parent will always want to forgive, smooth over, downplay, minimise, believe that a problem is just a phase, not make a mountain out of a molehill.
